The valley begins at the artificial Lake Jasna and follows the Pišnica stream towards Mount Razor (2,601 m), one of the highest peaks in the Julian Alps. On the western side of the Krnica Valley, a scenic road winds its way to Vršič, the highest mountain pass in Slovenia.

A forest trail leads into the Krnica Valley, and after about 3 km it reaches Planina v Klinu, where the steep slopes of Prisank (2,547 m) and Špik (2,472 m) converge. The dry riverbed of the Suha Pišnica rises toward Vršič, while the southern part of the valley extends into the embrace of Mount Križ (2,410 m), Razor (2,601 m), Dovški Gamsovec (2,440 m), and Prisank.

A cart track leads us through the forest to a clearing, where the mountain hut Koča v Krnici is located.
